To paint or not to paint? That is the question!

When decorating or designing older homes, the question that always comes up is, to paint or not to paint the trim and wainscoting? The sight of wood is appealing, but can make a space feel enclosed and dark. Most of the time it depends on the type of wood used in the space with the finish applied and scale of the space. So how does one know? If its rich woods like mahogany in a room with plenty of natural light, you do NOT need to paint it. If the ceilings are low or the space is small in scale, then DO paint it. Here are some examples.
